1. Peggy’s Cove
Peggy’s Cove in Nova Scotia’s bustling fishing village stands out as the site for iconic historic lighthouses that can be found throughout its coastline, yet none can rival that in Peggy’s Cove for fame or photo ops. Perched atop its granite shoreline formed through millions of years of erosion by ocean tides, this captivating fishing village draws visitors and locals alike with colorful houses, fishing shacks and its iconic lighthouse as its centerpiece – with restless waves lashing against rocks at sea creating picturesque scenes which will help create some unforgettable vacation photos from your visit!
This small community depends heavily on fishing for its livelihood, evidenced by the colorful fishing boats that still fill its harbor and by its vibrant core of restaurants and arts & crafts shops. There’s even a museum commemorating William E. deGarthe who lived here for decades – it pays homage to him!
Peggy’s Cove is a top tourist spot and an ideal weekend escape, so take advantage of it by booking one of Halifax’s many tours that includes both lighthouse and village; or explore at your own pace with an all-inclusive car rental package and spend the entire day discovering all that Peggy’s Cove has to offer without the stress of organizing transportation! Explore beaches, shop souvenirs, and enjoy other attractions while traveling at your own pace without needing to coordinate transportation between attractions.
2. Digby
Family film with plenty of farce and great characters that is entertaining for all ages, featuring terrible special effects by today’s standards but that only adds to its charm. One of my favourites as a child, and watching it again recently proved it still holds up well. A scientist accidentally feeds some plant growth boosting chemicals to his roses, which in turn gets fed to Digby and soon grows so large he wreaks havoc – it reminds me a bit of Clifford without annoying music and poor special effects; great kids movie featuring great performances by actors such as Frank Thorton who played Captain Peacock from Are You Being Served?
Digby can also be found in Animal Crossing and Pocket Camp, where he serves as host of the gardening event Digby’s Artful Retreat and can be found if players craft the Digby’s Hammock item. He appears at Happy Home Showcase as one of its judges; plus, he appears as a trophy in Super Smash Bros for Nintendo 3DS!
